In my opinion, the answer is yes. The windows-10 tag is not consistent with other version tags and it could raise some confusion with the desktop version of Windows 10. I think too windows-10-mobile or 10-mobile will be better tags instead of the current one.

I suggest we drop the code names from all of the tags. Now that time has passed since their common usage, it looks incorrect to see 8.0apollo or 7.5mango. It is clear enough to mention just the number or wp8. I actually prefer the wpX.X syntax as most enthusiast podasts use that format as well. ADDITIONALLY: Since this post has started there has not been ...

I don't think it is a good practice. In general questions about an specific error probably end up in just one question so no need for a tag. The problem is that the "Community" bot is creating tags with things in the title and I'm noob enough to can't find where to delete it.

I think having the manufacturers name is actually a good thing. The Android sister site seems to also do this and not have any synonyms e.g. https://android.stackexchange.com/tags/samsung-galaxy-s-3/synonyms and https://android.stackexchange.com/tags/htc-desire/synonyms While I can agree that for Lumia it is currently obvious that it is a Nokia, for other ...

Now set up as a synonym, and merged (to be consistent with others) :)

I see where you're coming from with this suggestion. The problem is that people start typing "windows" into the tag box, see windows-10 in the list and think "close enough". Most new users don't bother to read the wiki excerpts. We had the exact same problem with people tagging WP8 questions as windows-8 because that was the first suggestion in the tag box ...

I suggest two steps to be taken: Remove the windows-8 and windows-7 tags and replace them with something that more directly relates to connecting a WP device to a PC. Most questions on that topic aren't specific to just one version of Windows anyway. It's possible we wouldn't even need a new tag, as existing ones like pc or usb might also be sufficient. ...

Agreed. When merge tags is not so obvious which one will be the master. Probably someone just merge them and didn't realized that it had been changed.

I would prefer changing it to microsoft-lumia-640-xl as both Microsoft's website and Wikipedia mentions Lumia 640 XL as Microsoft Lumia 640 XL.

Tag has been renamed - might take a little while for the tag pages to update as this is pulled from caches :)

A separate tag for upgrade advisor would be nice. We already have separate tags for apps such as whatsapp(116 questions) and facebook(43 questions). Being an important app having a seperate tag for upgrade-advisor would be nice. But till now only your question contains the words upgrade advisor. 6 more answers contain the key word but tags are for questions ...

Those have been done, although nothing appeared to be tagged with the Microsoft prefixed options

Actually we do need the codenames, but as probably as separate tags. For example MS is now making Windows Phone Blue available for testing to selected users. We still don't know if it's going to be Windows Phone 8.1 or if they are going to create some other name. The system needs to be flexible enough so it can accompany Microsoft's name changes and schemes....

Yup.I am totally agree with your point. In fact I am tired of using nokia-lumia-535 tag for my Microsft Lumia 535. We should in fact change all the Nokia lumia tags and replace them by lumia tags. If not possible then, we should at least change the tag names for Lumia devices marked Microsoft. As far as I know there are only 12 devices marked Microsoft ...

I think we should rename desktop OS tags as PC-windows-10, PC-windows-8.1, PC-windows-8 and PC-windows-7. "PC" in the start of tag will make even a new-comer's mind as well to think that tags are useful for only PC-related problems. While mobile OS tags should be Windows-10-mobile, 8.0, 8.1 and 7.x as they are since the site title "Windows Phone" clearly ...

No. The windows-10 relates to questions with syncing a Windows Phone (irrespective of its version) with a PC running Windows 10. Similar to windows-8.1 The windows-10-mobile tag relates to issues with phones running Windows 10 Mobile as installed on their phone, or as updated to the current public release via the Over The Air updates. Similar to 8.1 If ...
